The Zener School for the Mind
Psychic abilities were something often explored in books and movies and on television, but always were held in the realm of science fiction and fantasy. Not so now, however. In the latter part of the 20th century, individuals began developing various ‘extra’ mental abilities that the bulk of the population did not have. The ability to hear the thoughts of others. The ability to dissociate their spirit from their body. Things that were often frightening and unnerving when they were unexplained and unexplored.
Slowly, some of these people began to find each other, to explore their abilities with others who would not think them freaks. And the idea was born to create a school to nurture the young minds coming with these abilities. And so the Zener School of the Mind was born - a place for young people with psychic abilities to come and learn how to control these abilities, while also continuing their secondary education. In 1995 the school was opened, with only a handful of students. Nearly a decade later and it has grown and flourished.
The Zener School operates as a private school, but without the usual academic requirement for admission - instead they are required to exhibit some psychic ability. There is a cost of attending, however, those students unable to pay are given scholarships. It is tucked away, out of the prying public eye. There, students are taught to understand their special skills, to get them under control so that they can fit in with normal society.
But the government knows its there. And a covert branch of the government wants the psychics, to train and use for their own means. In secret they have been training their own group of psychics to be their own personal weapons, and these psychics are about to emerge...
The Zener School has its own small network. On it, all students and staff are given a school e-mail address, as well as an online journal, which they can use to communicate.
